Andrew Ager, Composer
Born in Ottawa, Andrew Ager is one of Canada's most widely performed composers, having written for choirs, soloists, orchestras, and chamber ensembles. Writing as both an independent commissioned composer and as Composer-in-Residence to St. James Cathedral in Toronto, he works in a wide variety of forms and styles.
 
Internationally, he has had numerous premieres in Europe, including his song cycle "Campfire of the Sun" (Poems by Bliss Carman) at the Stadtsmusikfestival in Schleining, Austria, and, in May,2009, the premiere of his "Messe des Cloches" at the Cathedral of the Almudena in Madrid.
 
Other performances in 2009 include the European premiere at Westminster Cathedral in August of his Three Preludes and Fugues op.30, as the guest recitalist for the Annual Festival of New Organ Music in London, and in November, Ensemble Tryptych of Toronto will mount a fully staged professional production of his chamber opera "Frankenstein".
 
In June, "L'orgue Joyuex" will be heard as the Recessional for the RCCO College Service during the Annual Convention in Toronto in a brass/organ arrangement of the original work, which was written for the Mississauga Symphony, and premiered by the composer in October 2008.
 
He is also well-known as an arranger, having had great success recently with his setting of La Paloma, performed in Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia by Canadian countertenor Mark Donnelly .
 
In Summer 2009 his "Revue for Studio Ensemble and Two Lounge Singers" ("Ellis Portal") will be recorded by Talisker Players of Toronto for release this fall and in Fall 2010 he will perform with the same group for the premiere of a new comedy score for a Buster Keaton film.
 
As well, his arrangement for four-parts of "Jingle Bells" was recently featured at a VIP Screening of Disney Production's new remake of "A Christmas Carol"
